SCP Team Transfers Three to A-Main; Hammock wins East Texas Speedway
The inaugural Sprint Series of Texas race at East Texas Speedway was action packed as all three SCP Polymers drivers advanced into the A-Main. This marks the first time in team history that Mike Herring, Bud Hanna, and Joshua Hanna raced in the same race together.
The night started with Heat Race #1 that pitted Father vs. Son as Bud started 2nd while rookie Joshua Hanna started 5th. At the drop of the flag, Bud raced out to 2nd and easily held his position while the younger Hanna slipped to 6th. However, after two laps, Josh surged to 3rd and was glued to his dad's bumper. Bud did not waver as Josh attempted to power around the outside on the last lap but to no avail. Meanwhile Bud had a good run off of turn four and nearly caught winner Bob Odom by a nose. Josh would end up 4th. Both drivers transferred into the A-Main.
Next Mike Herring in Heat Race #2 started 6th. After half a lap, Mike dropped to 7th but quickly charged up to 5th, and the final transfer spot, and held onto it for the remaining seven laps to qualify for the A-Main.
During the A-Main, all three SCP Polymers drivers started in the Top 10 with Bud on the pole, Josh 6th, and Mike 10th. Bud held onto 1st for a lap until he caught too much side grip coming off of turn four and spun out thus disqualifying him from competition. Younger Hanna moved up to 4th for most of the race until he waned at the end as he had trouble adjusting to changing track conditions and fighting off a case of food poisoning. He would end up finishing 7th. Meanwhile Mike held onto 12th as the wide track developed a single groove that made moving up difficult in the later stages of the race. Jerry Hammock ended up winning from the 5th position as he was dominant all evening by sweeping his heat race, dash-4-cash, and the A-Main.
The next race will be June 20th at Cotton Bowl Speedway in Paige, TX.
